Las Vegas nonprofit helps over 8,000 at-risk kids through volunteerism

Published on Wed, Dec 18, 2013 (4:33 p.m.)

Las Vegas – Assistance League of Las Vegas (ALLV) is holding a new member coffee information session on January 8, at 10 a.m. at its facility located at 6446 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146. Attendees will learn more about volunteering at Assistance League of Las Vegas, and its programs, requirements, and membership. There is no charge to attend the event.

ALLV has been serving the needs of the Las Vegas community for more than 30 years and has numerous programs that help Clark County’s children. Operation School Bell® provides new school clothing and hygiene kits to over 8,000 at-risk students, grades K-8. The Kids on the Block program teaches coping skills to 3rd graders via educational puppet shows on issues such as bullying and divorce. Additional community programs include providing teddy bears to first responders for children in crisis, donating layettes and childcare education to impoverished new mothers and helping children read to encourage confidence in language development in the Rose Warren Reading Program. ALLV also operates a full service thrift Shop that helps fund these programs.

“We wouldn’t be able to offer our programs without our members and the dedicated volunteerism they display, year after year,” says Carroll Mueller, president of ALLV.

ALLV is a 100% volunteer run organization with no paid staff. Interested volunteers attend three required trainings before they can become full-fledged members. For the winter 2014 session, the training dates are on Thursday, Jan. 16, Thursday Jan. 23, and Monday, Jan. 27. Member dues are $75 annually, and a total of sixteen shifts per year must be worked at the Thrift Shop, Operation School Bell and Kids on the Block. Members are required to attend monthly meetings from September through June, as well as any applicable committee meetings. For more information on the new member coffee or to RSVP, please call 702-870-2002, or go to www.allv.org.
