A man killed Tuesday in a shootout with Henderson Police has been identified as Edward Scheboth, 63, of Henderson, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Scheboth was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died from a gunshot wound, officials said.

The officer-involved shooting unfolded about 8 a.m. Tuesday near Boulder Highway and College Drive, where Scheboth opened fire on an officer sitting in her patrol car. The officer was blocking traffic because of an earlier fatal accident nearby.

A shot shattered the rear driver’s side window, but the officer was able to pull away and radio for help, police said.

Two patrol cars immediately headed in her direction and encountered Scheboth walking across Boulder Highway, police said.

Scheboth, who was armed with three handguns, then began firing at the patrol cars, hitting one vehicle, police said.

Three officers returned fire, striking Scheboth, Henderson Police spokesman Keith Paul said.

No officers were injured.

Police had no explanation for why Scheboth started shooting.

Officers also found a rifle on a motorcycle police believe Scheboth rode to the area.

The police department has not yet released the names of the officers involved in the shooting.
