Assemblyman Steven Brooks takes part in an Assembly session during the third day of the 2013 legislative session Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 in Carson City.

Assembly Democrats voted to eject Assemblyman Steven Brooks from their caucus today after he reneged on his agreement to take a medical leave of absence.

Brooks, who was arrested last month on allegations he threatened Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, had agreed to take a leave of absence so he could continue medical treatment. Last week he was detained by police for psychiatric evaluation following a domestic disturbance involving a sword.

After agreeing to the leave, Brooks changed his mind and attended both committee meetings and floor session today.

In a statement, Assembly Majority Leader William Horne said Brooks needs to focus on his health.

" At this time, the organization has determined it’s in Mr. Brooks and the organization’s best interest to part ways," Horne said. "The caucus encourages him to work on his health issues without the rigor of caucus business. The ADC remains as committed as ever to conducting the people’s business this session."

  1. This whole thing needs to be put to rest. It is obvious that Mr. Brooks needs medical intervention and treatment. Dragging this out is a disservice to his district constituents, and only distracts from the true business of the Legislature---please, Assembly leaders and committee members, take a stand and stick to it. You are only making yourselves look weak and ineffective by not being decisive on this matter.

  2. Congrats & thanks to the Democrat members for policing their own.
