Four indicted in deaths during apartment robbery

A Clark County grand jury indicted four people Wednesday on charges in the deaths of two people during an apartment robbery last month.

Suspects Maruice Manuel Sims, Sasha Williams, Brandon Jerome Range and Daron Morris face charges that include robbery and murder.

A Metro Police arrest report alleges the following:

Williams, Sims, Range and Morris went to the apartment of Laurice Brightman at Harbor Island Apartments, 370 E. Harmon Ave., just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 4 to collect a debt owed to Williams. Brightman was in the apartment with his two friends, Anthony Anderson and Evin Russell.

The assailants each drew a gun and forced their way into the apartment and beat Brightman and his friends. The suspects then collected money and other valuable items like a television, iPhone and a MacBook Pro.

After 15 minutes, Brightman escaped but was shot in the buttocks. His two friends were shot and killed.

According to the indictment, Sims, Williams, Range and Morris face three counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of murder with use of a deadly weapon, and one count each of conspiracy commit burglary, burglary while in possession of a firearm, conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon.

Sims and Range also face one count of possession of a firearm by an ex-felon. Sims and Morris each face one count of conspiracy to commit battery and battery with a deadly weapon.
