Weekend best bets: World Food Championships, Judy Collins and Paul Williams

With Halloween behind us, Las Vegas can look forward to a mellower string of events this weekend.

Kick back and enjoy entertainment offerings ranging from dance performances to pop concerts to cooking competitions.

Here’s a look at our weekend best bets:

    • Tonight - Sunday: World Food Championships at Fremont Street Experience

      Gentlemen, start your grills! Join hundreds of chefs, home cooks and food aficionados at Fremont Street Experience as they compete in categories ranging from bacon fries to chili to sandwiches to barbecue. All competitions are free to attend, although special events like the Ultimate Bacon Experience on Saturday require separate ticket purchases.

    • Saturday: Selena Gomez at Mandalay Bay

      Come and get her — pop starlet Selena Gomez brings her Stars Dance tour to Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday night for an evening of infectious hits from the triple threat “Spring Breakers” star. Emblem3 and Christina Grimmie open. Tickets are $30.50 to $66.50. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

    • Friday: ‘Firebird’ by Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater at Smith Center

      Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater takes on the ballet classic with a new interpretation of the storybook tale featuring music by Igor Stravinsky and choreography by LVCD founder and Artistic Director Bernard H. Gaddis. Tickets are $24 to $79. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

      Saturday - Sunday: Paul Williams at South Point

      Singer, songwriter and composer Paul Williams brings his pop-country tunes to South Point Showroom this weekend for two nights of original songs made famous by the likes of Garth Brooks, The Dixie Chicks and Barbra Streisand. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20.

      Friday - Saturday: Lewis Black at the Mirage

      Rage-filled “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” funnyman Lewis Black stops by Terry Fator Theater at the Mirage this weekend with his Grammy-winning rants on the absurdities of politics, history and everyday life. Tickets to see the “Root of All Evil” standup are $60 to $80. Shows start at 10 p.m.

      Sunday: Judy Collins at Smith Center

      Eclectic singer-songwriter Judy Collins is at Reynolds Hall this weekend to perform her renditions of traditional and contemporary folk standards culled from her 50-album body of work. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $37 to $99.
